Casey’s Blog: Training, testing, and quality time at home

 In Casey's Blogs

Hi everyone,

It’s been a pretty busy time since I last wrote to you all.

I’ve been training pretty hard since the beginning of the year to make sure I was ready for the test with Honda in Sepang and I’m happy with my general fitness. In mid-January my good friend Chris moved over to Australia and he will work with us as our business manager and help us out on certain projects we have in mind for the future.

With the Malaysia test planned for the end of January, we decided to head to Langkawi for a few days prior to the test. I really enjoyed it there and it was very beautiful, Chris, Adri and myself stayed pretty active, we went snorkeling, kayaking, sailing and also gave windsurfing a go..! We also rented a couple of scooters to tour around the island which was fun. I also did some training there which was great and on arrival to Kuala Lumpur we hit the gym, played some golf and tennis as I prepared for the three day test.

The test was really good. We got a lot done and hopefully I’ve helped Honda with some constructive feedback and data to take back to Saitama in Japan. I also had the opportunity to test the Suzuka 8hr Honda machine, having never ridden anything in superbike spec, it went better than I expected and to be honest I had a lot of fun. It’s very different to the MotoGP machine in many ways, but nevertheless it was nice to be able to hang out the rear and play around!

After the test was over, we stayed in Malaysia for a few days to catch up with the team and especially speak with Nakamoto san, Takeo (HRC Technical Director) and Livio. It was nice to discuss the test with them and my thoughts on the bike. We also caught up with friends in the paddock, some of the riders and managed to fit in a nice dinner with Dani before we left.

No sooner had we arrived back in Australia, and I was off again… this time to the Cook Islands with my good friend Paul Worsteling from iFish. Not the most ideal date as I left on Valentines Day which definitely lost me some brownie points with Adri, and it meant I missed Ally’s 3rd birthday, but I made up for it on my return. We filmed a show down there for his current season and I also managed to get some freediving/spearfishing in as the guys at Swell Water Sports in Korora ( were kind enough to kit me out with some new gear! So thanks to Dan and his team for all their help!

Since returning home I’ve been able to relax a little and spend time with the family. I’ve been playing a lot of golf with Chris after I received some great Hiskei clubs, I’m so pleased with them! I’ve also been watching the Supercross and with Ryan (Villopoto) involved in World MXGP, I’m also really interested in that! It was a tought first race for him in Qatar but he did very well considering what happened.. now I’m looking forward to watching the Thailand race this weekend!

It’s also not long until the start of the MotoGP season. I’m interested to see what happens this year and really hope that Dani can have a strong season for Honda and challenge for the title.

Take care all.
